Patmos
Int’l Film Festival
There
is one more reason to visit the island and combine relaxation with culture: the 1st
International Film Festival of Patmos (IFFP) is being launched this summer and will run from
July 19 to 25.
The
IFFP is organized by a committed team of film professionals who aim to establish
a new platform for Greek and international filmmakers to showcase their work and

Ecofilms
2010
The
Ecofilms International Films And Visual Arts Festival (www.ecofilms.gr)
takes place from June 22 to 27, on the island of Rhodes.
The
event is organized by the non-profit association Image and Environment and the
Rodos Cultural Organisation.
Participating films
include documentaries,
shorts and features from around the world, with environmental and ecology themes,
conservation issues and those related to the natural and the human-made
environment. Prizes are awarded to films for innovative approach to
conservation, for daring proposals in their field and artistic qualities overall.
An
innovative offshoot of this festival - the Ecokids Rodos 2010
- took place on March 8-12.
The
event welcomed 6,000 schoolchildren from the Dodecanese.
Ecokids
involves more than just watching films. It is about active participation,
offering hands - on activities touching upon the theme of the environment.

8e Rencontre internationale des films
archéologiques de l'espace méditerranéen ... et au-delà
La 8e Rencontre internationale des
films archéologiques de l'espace méditerranéen ... et au-delà est organisée
à Athènes entre le 11 et 16 mai au cinéma Apollon Cinemax Class par la revue
"Archéologie et Arts" et l'organisme culturel de la municipalité
d'Athènes.
Durant 36 heures environ, un voyage
extraordinaire conduira le spectateur de Mycènes à Néméa, des îles de
Pâque au pays des Mayas, de Messinie à Kastellorizo, du Mali au Niger, de
Crète à Chypre, du Zimbabwe au Kenya.
Le dimanche 11 mai, peu avant la
remise des prix "Agon 2010", des extraits du spectacle "Mavro
Yemen" (mise en scène Memis Spyratos) sont inscrits au programme.
Archaeological
Film Feast
The
8th
International Meeting of Archaeological Film
of the Mediterranean Area is taking place in Athens from May 11 to 16, at the
Apollon Cinema, in downtown Athens.
The event
is organised by the non-profit association "Agon," a founding member
of the European Federation of Archaeology and Patrimony
Film Festivals,
in collaboration with the "Archaeology
and Arts"
magazine and the City
of Athens Cultural Organisation.
Thirty
six hours of screening will take the audience to a journey from Mycenae
and Nemea
to Mali and Nigeria, from Kastelorizo and Messene
to Easter Island, from Crete and Cyprus to Zanzibar and Kenya with the help of
archaeological documentaries.

Video Art Festival
The
6th International
Video Art Festival
– the leading festival in digital arts and new media in Greece- is taking

Thessaloniki documentary
festival
The
"12th
Thessaloniki Documentary Festival (TDF)– Images of the 21st Century"
will run from March 12 to 21 showcasing approximately 170 documentaries.
The
TDF
is a leading European Documentary Festival, held every March in Thessaloniki.
Through its tributes and retrospectives, the TDF focuses on filmmakers with
unique cinematic voices, internationally renowned for their contribution to the
documentary genre.
The
Festival’s side events host exhibitions, masterclasses, round table
discussions, publications, concerts, and parties.
An
International Doc Market will be held this year from March 15 – 20, featuring
over 450 titles.

4th edition of the Athens International
Short Film Festival
(Psarokokalo) is taking place in Athens on February 1 to 7.
Screenings
will be held at the Greek Film Archive
and the Nixon Bar, in the downtown district of Kerameikos. All films are

50e Festival du Cinéma à
Thessalonique
C'est avec le slogan "Why Cinema
Now" que le 50e Festival du Cinéma de Thessalonique débutera le 13
novembre, et sa directrice, Despina Mouzaki, a présenté mardi le programme
annonçant la projection du film "To potami" de Nikos Kountouros, le
premier film primé au cours de la 1ère semaine du Cinéma grec.
Le Festival de Thessalonique a
préparé des rétrospectives et invité des personnalités du cinéma et des
arts, comme les metteurs en scène, Werner Herzog et Goran Paskaljevic, le
producteur Jeremy Thomas, l'actrice Jane Birkin, Waris Dirie, auteur de l'autobiagraphie
"Fleur du désert", ainsi que le mannequin et actrice, Liya Kebede.

Le département grec d'Amnesty International
organise un festival du cinéma consacré aux droits de l'Homme du 7 au 14
octobre au Musée du Cinéma de Thessalonique, l'objectif étant bien évidemment
la sensibilisation du public à ce grand problème vécu dans le monde entier.

The
International
Animation Festival & Forum "animasyros 2.0" will take
place from September 24 to 27 at the Apollon
Theatre and in other venues of the Cycladic Syros
island’s capital Hermoupolis.

festival features screenings of animation films from around the world and a
competition section with more than 70 films, workshops for children and students
of the animation section of the University of South

Short
Film Festival
The
Drama
Film Festival 2009 (32nd National Short Film
Festival of Drama, the 15th International Short Film Festival and the DIGI2009
Digital Film Festival) is opening on September 21 and will run until September
26. Along with screening of Greek and foreign short films, a series of parallel
events will also
take place.
This
year’s innovation is the establishment of a new training program targeted to
young creators. The Drama
mini-talent Lab
aims to bring together creators from all over the world, through original and
collaborative workshops, placing them in an interactive educational process. On
the opening day of the Festival, the National Book Centre of Greece (EKEBI)
will award the prizes for the winners of the screenplay competition – based on
the best adaptation of a literary work into a script for a short film.

especially short films and has evolved into a major annual event for short film

Festival international du Cinéma à
Athènes
Le 15ème Festival International du
Cinéma d'Athènes sera organisé dans les salles de cinéma "Attikon",
"Apollon" et "Danaos" du 16 au 27 septembre présentant des
films d'Almodovar, de Nora Ephron et des rétrospectives consacrées aux cinéma
"culte", films musicaux, d'horreur, des documentaires et des films

International
health film festival on Kos
During
recent years many thematic festivals have developed internationally to cover the
public’s needs on specific areas of interest.
A
film festival that applies specifically to health matters did not exist anywhere
in the world until now. Yet, in recent years, there has been a great production
of films which approach health issues with respect and ethos, but rarely reach
the distribution network or television channels.
The
First
International Health Film Festival
"Ippokratis" is taking place from September 1 to 6 on the island of Kos
– the birthplace of Hippocrates.
It
is an initiative of artistic director Lucia Rikaki
- generously endorsed by the Municipality of Kos Island and the Ministry of
Health - aiming at establishing a meeting place for members of the international
health community, artists and the audience in order to view, discuss and
appreciate creative audiovisual works on health and prevention.
The
five day festival is a competition festival and will screen
current production films on health issues
from all over the world that will compete for the three prizes of the festival
– a gold, silver and bronze "Ippokratis."

Festival d’Art-vidéo d’Athènes
Le
Festival d’Art-Vidéo d’Athènes sera organisé pour la 5e
année
du 14 au 17 mai 2009 à ‘Technopolis’, Gazi. Il s’agit du plus important
festival d’arts numériques en Grèce, qui vise à la promotion de
l’utilisation de la technologie numérique dans l’art. Au programme, le matériel
d’autres festivals internationaux et de plusieurs concerts. Cette année, les
nouvelles catégories d’animation et image numérique seront intégrées au
festival. Plus de 1300 artistes venus de 58 pays vont y participer. Les
visiteurs auront l’occasion d’assister à un hommage à Nam

Ouverture du 6e Festival international
du Cinéma de Naoussa le 7 mai
Le 6e Festival international de films
et de vidéos court métrage de Naoussa (Imathia) ouvre ses portes jeudi et
jusqu'au dimanche 10 mai.
200 films seront projetés de 40 pays
du monde entier, l'objectif de ce rendez-vous culturel étant la promotion du
cinéma numérique et de la créativité expérimentale.
Le Festival, une initiative
exclusivement privée, a été organisé pour la première fois en 2004 avec la
projection de 28 films de créateurs grecs et tout juste 500 spectateurs.
"En très peu d'années, nous
sommes arrivés à rendre le programme international et à augmenter le nombre
de spectateurs à 10.000", a expliqué le président du Festival, Nikos
Koutsogiannis, à l'ANA-MPA.
Aujourd'hui, le Festival est placé
sous l'égide des ministères de la Culture et de Macédoine-Thrace, et est
financé aussi par le programme opérationnel "Culture" du 3e Cadre

Le 21e Panorama du Cinéma européen
ouvre ses portes jeudi à Athènes
Le 21e Panorama du Cinéma européen
du quotidien d’Athènes "Eleftherotypia" s’ouvre jeudi 9 octobre
avec le film en première projection de Nicos Panagiotopoulos "Athènes-Istanbul",
plus de 80 longs métrages du monde entier étant programmés à l’affiche des
11 jours du panorama.
Des prix seront décernés au cours de
cette période, notamment le prix Eleftherotypia et de la Fédération
internationale de la presse cinématographique (Fiprescki), ainsi que de la
revue "Athinorama".

The
First Animation Festival "AnimaSyros 1.0"
will take place from September 19 to 21 on the Aegean island of Syros. With 102
movies from 26 countries, AnimaSyros aspires to become the "place to be"
for all those interested in animation films. The festival is an initiative of Platforma
Urban Culture Co. and is put together in collaboration with the Cultural Centre of the
Municipality of Hermoupolis,
Syros.
Shooting
Films in 48 hours
The
48 Hour Film Project comes to Athens for the first time, from October 31 to
November 2, 2008. The contest is expected to attract competition from across the
country, while the winning film will go up against those from around the world
for the title "Best 48 Hour Film of 2008". Registration opened on

of September 15, lovers of short films production can revel at the National and
International Short Film Festival in Drama.

11e Festival du documentaire méditerranéen au Parc de
Lavrion
Samedi 6 septembre, les portes du 11e Festival du
documentaire méditerranéen s'ouvriront au Parc technologique et culturel de
Lavrion, organisé par la préfecture de l'Attique orientale, l'Association des
metteurs en scène et producteurs grecs, la Société de mise en valeur et
gestion du patrimoine de l'Ecole polytechnique.
Jusqu'au 9 septembre, le programme comprend 27 projections de
Grèce, France, Egypte, Italie, Israël, Espagne, Turquie, Portugal et
Territoires palestiniens.
Le Festival est placé sous l'égide du ministère de la
Culture et de ERT SA, du Centre hellénique du Cinéma et de Media Desk.
The
11th
Mediterranean Documentary Festival will be hosted from September 6 to
9 at the Lavrion
Technological Cultural Park. The festival is organized by the
Association of Greek Film Directors and Producers. This year, the festival screens
26 movies from Greece, Italy, France, Israel, Egypt, Spain, Turkey, Portugal and
Palestine. In addition to the traditional sections of work, immigration,
political documentary film, people and places, there will also be an eco
section, thus inaugurating a collaboration with the eco festival EcoFilms.
The
festivall kicks off with "Cairo" (1991) in memory of the late Egyptian
director Youssef
Chahine. The festival will also screen "The
band’s visit" by Eran Kolirin, a joint production by Egypt and
Israel followed by a discussion moderated by Kolirin on behalf of the Greek Film
Critics Association. This year’s parallel events include a concert by Thanos
Mikroutsikos and an exhibition featuring film posters. The Mediterranean
Documentary Festival is not based on competition and therefore includes movies
which are selected on the basis of the mark they have left in their time.

Ecofilms

Ecofilms international films and visual arts festival (www.ecofilms.gr)
takes place from June 24 to 29 on the island of Rhodes. 52
Greek films and 80 international works are participating this year. The annual
event attracts films from around the world, mainly on environmental subjects,
ranging from climate change, to the threat of desertification and the energy
crisis to water resource management. Ecofilms takes "eco" in its
ancient Greek meaning, to include human relationships, as well as the inner
human world.

Le
Festival
du Film Francophone fête
cette année sa neuvième édition et ouvre ses portes du 3 au 13
avril à Athènes et du 10 au 16 avril à Thessalonique. La nouvelle édition
fêtera le quarantième anniversaire de la Quinzaine
des Réalisateurs du festival de Cannes.
Au total, une cinquantaine de films seront projetés aux cinémas d’Attikon
Cinemax Class, Apollon Cinemax Class, et à l’Auditorium de l’IFA
(Tous à Athènes). La nouveauté de cette dernière édition sera la présentation
de la part de la musicienne grecque Olga
Kouklaki d’un cinemix où se rencontrent des

which includes science fiction film screenings, as well as an
educational programme. At the Olympion Cinema Theater and the Noesis

Francophone Film Festival: From April 3 to 13 in Athens, and from 10 to
16 in Thessaloniki. The francophone production panorama, screening more
than fifty French language films, will be presented at the French

Festival du
documentaire de Thessaloniki
Le
Festival du Documentaire de Thessalonique
(du 7 au 16 mars) fête cette année son 10e anniversaire. A cette 10eme
édition, qui a comme titre « Images du 21ème siècle » près
de 200 documentaires seront projetés.
Le contenu du festival est basé sur
des thèmes tels que «Les visages du fascisme," présentant la
naissance et l'évolution du fascisme, "les droits de
l'homme", "Focus sur l’Asie", "Panorama grec"
etc. Une série d’événements se déroulent
en parallèle, comme deux expositions de photos, une de l’ambassade du
Canada titrée «Reconstruire l'Afghanistan», et une autre du
journaliste grec Sotiris Danezis, intitulé «Une seconde de silence»
qui a comme thème la vie dans un monde en guerre, ainsi que de
divers séminaires et des débats ouverts.

Ecocinema
International Film Festival
The
7th
Ecocinema International Film Festival
will take place in Piraeus between 21-27 February, at Atticon and Cineak
cinemas, both located at the Town Hall Square. The films cover a wide
range of vital issues the world is facing today - man and the
environment, globalization, societies in crisis, and war – and the
creative ways that people have found to deal with them. This year the
festival pays tribute to the French pioneer of scientific film,
Jean Painlevé (1902-1989). Also, in collaboration with SOS Live Earth,
the campaign against climate change, Ecocinema Film Festival shall
host the SOS
Short Films Program.

Digital
culture festival enters fourth year
The
Athens Video Art Festival 08
will be held on April 11-13, at the Technopolis of Athens.The event,
already celebrating its fourth birthday, aims at the support of digital
culture and the promotion of this modern and innovative form of
expression. Furthermore, it gives the artists additional motives to
create, and a platform to share their artistic vision with the public.
Through its three very successful previous events, the festival has
already gained global recognition. Artists may participate with works of
video art, installation art, web art and performance art. The deadline
for submissions is February 15.

Le 48ème Festival du Cinéma
de Thessalonique commence vendredi
Le 48ème Festival du Cinéma
de Thessalonique débutera vendredi pour se terminer dimanche 25
novembre. Plus de 200 films de production grecque et internationale
seront projetés ainsi qu'une série de dédicaces, célébrations et
projections spéciales qui rendront hommage à des personnes, des
tendances du cinéma grec et international (notamment un hommage à
William Klein, John Sayles, le nouveau cinéma espagnol, le metteur en
scène Nikos Nikolaïdis).
Le secrétaire général du
ministère de la Culture, Christos Zachopoulos, proclamera l'ouverture
du Festival vendredi à 9h30 dans la salle du cinéma "Olympion"
et des messages seront adressés par le ministre de Macédoine-Thrace,
Margaritis Tzimas, et le maire adjoint à la Culture de Thessalonique,
Vassilis Gakis de la part du maire de Thessalonique, Vassilis
Papageorgopoulos.
La cérémonie d'ouverture
sera suivie de la projection du film du metteur en scène chinois, Wong
Kar-wai, "My Blueberry Nigts" qui était candidat au 60ème
Festival de Cannes.

Le Festival du court-métrage
s'ouvre à Drama pour la 30e année consécutive
La Radio-télévision publique
ERT et le Centre hellénique du Cinéma sont les deux grand sponsors du
30e Festival des films de court-métrage et du 13e Festival
international du court-métrage, qui a lieu depuis lundi 17 septembre
jusqu'au dimanche 23 septembre à Drama (Macédoine orientale).
Au programme, 61 cinéastes
grecs et 76 cinéastes étrangers présentent leurs oeuvres qui seront
jugées cette année par les critiques Nenad Dukic (Serbie), Dimitris
Koutsiabasakos (Grèce), Bibo Liang (Chine), Mikhail Litvyakov (Russie)
et Olga Markova (Ukraine), un panel présidé par l'Américain Ronald

Documentary Festival
Within
the conference’s framework and in collaboration with the Greek
Film Centre
the “Emotion
Pictures Festival: 1st International Documentary Festival on
Disability“ is being held with documentary films focusing on issues of disability.
It will take place at the Benaki Museum, Pireos St. Annexe, from June 16 to 18. Over
300 filmmakers from around the world, representing a total of 45
countries,
have responded with enthusiasm. Guests of honour are the famous artist Alison
Lapper
and Paralympic champion and artist Aimee
Mullins.
The Festival
Jury
will award five prizes, €20,000 each, to the winners. The festival
will be inaugurated by the President
of the Republic Karolos Papoulias.

Festival
The
Ecofilms international films and visual arts festival (www.ecofilms.gr)
on the island
of Rhodes,
will be running from June 19 to 24. This year the festival has attracted
submissions of 400 films from around the world, mainly on environmental
subjects, ranging from climate change, to the threat of desertification
and the energy crisis to water resource management. However Ecofilms
takes “eco” in its ancient Greek meaning, to include human
