"Odysseas
Language Project"
is a new online interactive programme designed to teach the Greek language on
the internet. Led
by the Greek-Canadian Andre
Gerolymatos,
chairman of Hellenic Studies at Simon Fraser University
in Canada, "Odysseas" is designed to emulate how an actual personal
tutor would instruct a student. The
programme keeps on expanding as the number of students in the United States,
Canada and China who are taking up this challenge, is increasing. Through
partnerships with some of the most prestigious universities worldwide such as
Harvard, Yale and University of Beijing in China, more and more students are
lining up to learn Greek. The programme offers four different proficiency levels
ranging from beginner to advanced and it is funded by Stavros Niarchos Foundation.
ROUTES IN TEACHING MODERN GREEK "Routes
in Teaching Modern Greek"
is a distance-training course that was developed within the project Developing
Levels of Certificate of Attainment in Greek (Εξετάσεις
για την
πιστοποίηση
ελληνομάθειας).
The course is addressed to expatriates and foreigners who are involved in
teaching Greek as a foreign language abroad. Their aim is to keep teachers
abreast of developments in teaching foreign languages, and in particular Greek,
to help them acquire the knowledge and teaching skills required for language
teaching and to train them in the methodology of teaching Greek as a foreign
language at all levels and to all age-groups. A
NEW PORTAL FOR GREEK LANGUAGE EDUCATION The
Centre
for the Greek Language has
designed a new portal (www.greek-language.gr) to support the study and teaching of the Greek language. It is
addressed to researchers, university students, teachers, pupils, and everyone
interested in the Greek language, within and outside of Greece. It attempts to
cover the Greek language both diachronically and synchronically (Ancient Greek,
Medieval Greek, Modern Greek). The
portal aims at constituting a useful, reliable, and effective environment for
the support and dissemination of the Greek language in the digital age, for the
teaching of Greek as a native and second/foreign language, as well as for the
productive use of Information and Communication Technologies in the teaching of
the Greek language. The
Centre for the Greek Language has been recently (September
2008) awarded the
European Language Label for its innovative e-learning program: http://elearning.greek-language.gr
The
Centre for the Greek Language holds annual exams for the Certificate
of Attainment in Modern Greek
(Εξετάσεις για την
πιστοποίηση ελληνομάθειας). Greek
